The Last Thornwood Luna

Chapter 14 · The Mine Door

Cade's hand stayed locked around my wrist. The Thornwood key sat between us on the dirt, its crest catching the beam of his flashlight.

"How long have you had this?" His voice was flat. Dangerous.

I didn't answer. Couldn't. My father's mark was right there in the open and every instinct screamed at me to grab it and run.

But Cade didn't let go.

"Sienna." He said my name like a command. "How. Long."

"Does it matter?" I yanked my arm but he held firm. Not hard enough to hurt. Just enough to keep me exactly where I was. "You going to drag me back to the pack house? Lock me up like Damon?"

Something flashed across his face. Pain, maybe. Or exhaustion. He'd just put down a rebellion. Blood still stained his collar and his jaw was swelling on one side.

"I should," he said. "You're sneaking around Ironridge land with a Thornwood key. You lied to my face about where you were going tonight. What the hell am I supposed to think?"

"Think whatever you want." I met his eyes. "I'm going in that mine. With or without you."

For a long moment he just stared at me.
