The Last Thornwood Luna

Chapter 17 · The Voice Below

I'm on my feet before anyone can stop me.

The voice came from the old mining tunnels. Dad's voice. Impossible, but I heard it. Everyone heard it.

Cade grabs my wrist. "Sienna, wait—"

"Let go." I yank free. Blood's still dripping from my nose where the trial stone's backlash hit me. Don't care. That was my father. Six years I thought he was ash and bones, and now he's down there.

Or something is.

Damon steps in front of me, blade still drawn. "You're not going anywhere."

"Move."

"The trial exposed you. You think we're just going to let you walk into—"

Cade shoves him aside. Hard. Damon hits the ground, and two enforcers rush forward, but Cade's already shifted halfway, claws out, eyes full-gold. "Anyone touches her, I'll rip their throat out."

Gareth's voice cuts through. "Alpha, you're making a mistake."

"Then I'll own it." Cade doesn't look back. He's staring at me. "But I'm coming with you."

I should say no. Should tell him to stay with his pack, the pack that's two seconds from tearing itself apart because of me. But that voice came from the mines.
