Chapter 18 · Three Days Early

The name stares up at us from the cracked pendant.

MIRA.

In my father's handwriting.

"We need to get out of here." Cade's voice cuts through the ringing in my ears. Dust is still falling. The whole mine could come down any second.

I can't move. Can't breathe.

"Sienna." His hand closes around my wrist. "Now."

I shove the pendant and the hidden map into my pocket. My ribs scream when I stand. Something's broken. Maybe more than one thing.

Cade half-carries me through the tunnel. The ceiling groans. A chunk of rock crashes down five feet behind us.

"Move," he growls.

We burst out into moonlight. Damon and three enforcers are waiting at the entrance. Damon takes one look at me and his face goes hard.

"She's bleeding."

"I noticed." Cade doesn't let go of me. "Get the healer. Now."

"The Council wants—"

"I don't care what they want." Cade's eyes flash gold. Alpha command, sharp enough to cut. "Get. The healer."

Damon's jaw tightens but he signals one of the enforcers. The guy takes off running.

I'm shaking. Can't stop.
