The Last Thornwood Luna

Chapter 22 · Put the Luna on Trial

Garrett's hand is still locked around my ankle. His fingers are cold. Too cold.

"Sienna Vale." Grey says my name like he's sentencing me. "Daughter of Marcus Vale. Last of the Thornwood bloodline. You want to tell your mate the truth, or should I?"

Cade hasn't moved. He's standing three feet from me and I can feel the bond pulling tight between us, stretched so thin it's about to snap. His eyes are black. Not angry black. Worse. Empty black.

"Let go of me," I tell Garrett. My voice comes out steadier than I expected.

He doesn't let go. His grip tightens. "You have to run," he rasps. "Before midnight. The wards—"

Grey kicks him in the ribs. Garrett's hand falls away and I stumble back against the cell wall. The stone is damp. Smells like rust and old blood and something else. Something burning, but not fire. More like ozone before a lightning strike.

"Cade." I meet his eyes. "Let me explain."

"Explain." He repeats the word like he's testing it. Like he's never heard it before. "You want to explain why you've been lying to me for six years?"

"I didn't lie about everything."

"Just your name.
