Chapter 16 · Jae's Worse Offer

"Answer me." Bianca's phone is still up, red dot blinking, aimed at my face like a gun. "What did he offer you, Lila? Say it. Say it on camera."

Grant doesn't even look at her. He leans back in his chair, fingers laced over his stomach, like she's a fly he'll swat later. "Ms. Velasco, this is a private meeting."

"It's my aunt's contractor's letterhead." Bianca shakes the folder she grabbed off the desk, the one with the Ormoc clinic seal stamped in the corner. "Why does an American buyer have my family's paperwork mixed in with a maid's?"

I open my mouth. Nothing comes out that won't blow up in three directions at once. My sister's Dubai contract. My mother's four hundred thousand pesos. The ledger in my bag with a name in it I still haven't said out loud to anyone.

That's when the door goes wide without a knock. It bangs against the wall stop and nobody flinches but me.

Jae Min doesn't storm in. He never storms.
