Chapter 34 · Livestream in the Lobby

"Say it again, Lila. Say it into the camera." Bianca's phone was already up, red dot blinking, propped against her own manicured hand like a weapon. "Tell everyone how a maid ends up with a company badge that says Head of Operations."

The lobby had maybe forty guests in it. Half of them already had their own phones out, because Bianca had tagged the hashtag before she even got off the elevator. #LunaBayFraud. Three hundred views and climbing while I stood there in my work blazer with a stack of contracts still warm from the printer.

"Turn it off," I said.

"Why? Scared of the truth, ate?" Bianca stepped closer, close enough that I could smell her perfume over the coffee cart, something sweet and sharp that made my eyes sting. "Or scared Mr. Jae finds out his little translator forged her way onto the board?"

"I didn't forge anything." My hands were sweating around the contracts. I didn't let them shake.

"Sure. And I'm sure the board just handed you a title for fun.
