"What did he do?" I caught Dorian by the coat and slammed him against the console. "Tell me. Now."

His head cracked against the wood.

He sucked in a breath, but he didn't shove me off. Didn't even raise a hand.

That scared me worse than a fight would have.

"Let go."

"Not until you talk."

His eyes cut toward the hallway. "You don't know what you're asking."

"I know you came running in here like you'd seen a ghost. I know you locked the door behind you. And I know his name came out of your mouth before you even took off your coat." I twisted my fist in his collar. "So try me. What did he do?"

Dorian's breath brushed my knuckles. Cold. Uneven.

"They're listening," he whispered.

"Let them."

"He told the council."

My grip went still.

"Told them what?"

Dorian swallowed. "About you."

"That's not an answer."

"It's the only answer I can give you without getting us both killed."

I shoved him harder. "Don't feed me that coward crap. You dragged me into this.
