The Moon Debt Bride

Chapter 19 · Don't Let Him Put It On

Dorian hit the dead phone out of my hand so hard it smacked the tunnel wall and burst into three ugly pieces.

“Hey!” I lunged for it.

He caught me around the waist before I got two steps. His arm was shaking. Not from effort. From the silver buried in his side.

“Don’t touch it,” he said.

“My mother was on that phone.”

“Or someone wearing her voice.”

I twisted in his grip and drove my elbow backward. It connected with something hard under his ribs. He made a rough sound, half breath, half growl, but he didn’t let go.

Sable swore under her breath. “Can you two save the domestic murder thing for after we’re not trapped underground with a Council hunting party?”

Boots hit concrete somewhere behind us.

Not close yet.

Close enough.

Dorian finally released me, though his hand stayed at the small of my back like he thought I might bolt the second he blinked.

He was right.

The tunnel lights buzzed overhead. Old pipes sweated along the ceiling.
