The enemy transmission ended, but the image remained burned across the bridge glass.
Sera Vale stood with one hand braced against the command rail. Reflected in the dark window, her face looked carved from ice. Behind her, warning lights pulsed over the bridge, painting every officer in alternating red and black. The fleet had escaped the blockade.
The Blue Heron was alive. Three enemy destroyers were tumbling inside the gravity fold, their drives sheared apart by the trap Evan had built from half a dozen impossible calculations.
It should have felt like a victory.
