Carson shoved open the steel door and dragged me into the lift.

The doors slammed behind us. His shoulder pinned mine against the wall as the lift dropped before he touched a single control.

Something huge groaned beneath our feet.

I grabbed the rail. “If this thing fails—”

“It won’t.”

“You say that like you control gravity.”

“I control the lift.”

“Right. You control the lift, my brother, my contract…” I shot him a look. “My body, every time that mark decides I can’t get six inches away from you.”

His jaw tightened. “I didn’t write the contract.”

“But you used it.”

“Because it was the only way to keep Noah alive.”

“You keep saying that.” I shoved my shoulder harder against the wall, trying to put space between us. There wasn’t any. His heat pressed through both our clothes. “Give me proof.”

Carson reached inside his coat.

The lift dropped again. My stomach lurched. His hand caught my waist before I hit the floor.

“Don’t touch me.”

“Then stand up.
