Chapter 30 · Undercity Broker - Chapter 30: The Debt in Her Room
Lin pushed the door shut with his heel. Su Jin was already moving past him, one hand pressed against her side where the fabric was dark and wet. The box sat heavy in Lin's other hand, metal edges digging into his palm. He could still hear voices two levels down. Didn't know if they were Lei's people or someone else's.
"Lock it," Su Jin said. Her voice was tight.
He turned the bolt. The room was small. Shipping container walls, same as half the undercity. A cot shoved against one corner. A table made from stacked crates. One bulb hanging from a wire. The air smelled like rust and old smoke.
Su Jin sat down hard on the cot. She pulled her hand away from her side and looked at the blood on her fingers. "How bad?" Lin asked.
"I'll live." She reached under the cot and dragged out a metal case. Flipped it open. Medical supplies inside, the kind you don't buy topside. "You got it?"
Lin set the box on the table. "Yeah."
"Good." She pulled out a needle and thread, a bottle of something clear. Poured it over the wound without flinching.
