"Keep moving, Sera. If you stop, I carry you."

Kael's hand locked around my wrist and hauled me through the service alley before I could throw another knife at his head.

I stumbled over a broken drain cover. He caught me against his chest, one arm across my ribs, the other braced beside my face. Rain slapped the metal fire escape above us. His coat pressed cold against my back, but his palm was hot enough to make my pulse jump.

"Take your hand off me."

"The Temple just put our faces on every public screen in Neon City. You don't get to be picky about personal space."

"You called them liars on a live broadcast. This is your fault."

"You were the one who gave them a reason to hunt us."

I shoved at his chest. He barely moved. That was the part I hated most. Kael never needed to raise his voice.
