Chapter 20 · You could ask before grabbing me

He pulled me away from the console and moved us behind a server column. His arm locked around my waist, keeping my back against him. The position was practical. It also put his mouth near my hair and his hand flat over my stomach.

I elbowed him lightly.

"You could ask before grabbing me."

"You could stop trying to get us killed."

"You brought me here."

"And you followed."

"Because you promised me a name."

"I promised you proof."

"Same thing if you don't screw it up."

The terminal beeped again.

A second window opened by itself.

Kane's hold tightened.

"Don't move," he whispered.

"You say that like I enjoy being pinned to you."

"Your hand is still on mine."

I looked down.

He was right. My fingers were hooked around his wrist, holding him close enough that the bond stayed quiet.

"The contract is acting up," I whispered back.
