Chapter 28 · Cold Slip
The radio dies mid-word.
Just a rip of static where Gia's voice was a second ago. Dominic's knuckles go bone-white against the leather wheel.
"Say it again," he snaps at the dash. "Gia. Say it again."
Nothing. Rain hammers the windshield sideways. The wipers are losing the fight, smearing grease and black water into streaks. My seatbelt bites deep into my collarbone because he took that last switchback like he wanted to snap the axle.
"She said marina," I tell him, my voice shaking before I can stop it. "She said Victor knows about the marina."
"I heard her."
"Which marina, Dominic?"
He doesn't answer. A muscle jumps under his jawline. I know that face now. That's the wall going up, the exact look he gets right before he decides what I'm allowed to know.
"Don't," I snap, leaning into his space. "Don't you dare shut down on me. If this has anything to do with Danny—"
"I don't know that it does."
"Bullshit. You've got a guess."
The front tires drop into a pothole with an ugly crunch. My elbow cracks against the passenger door. He doesn't tap the brakes.
