Void Pact: The Dealer's Debt

Chapter 21 · The Mirror Debt

"Don't let go of me."

Lilith's hand locked around my wrist as the mirror pulled.

Not metaphorically. The glass had swallowed my arm to the elbow, and every second it stayed there, another piece of me went cold. My fingers barely answered when I tried to move them.

Silas stood on the other side of the mirror, smiling like he had all night.

"You can stop fighting now, Kane," he said. "The debt has already been collected."

"Then why am I still standing?"

"Habit. Stubbornness. Bad gambling instincts. Pick one."

Lilith yanked me backward. Her boots scraped across the concrete, but the mirror held me tighter. The surface rippled around my arm. Behind it, Silas lifted one gloved hand and pressed his palm to the glass.

His touch landed against mine through the mirror.

The cold went straight through my bones.

"Kane," Lilith snapped. "Look at me. Not him."

"I'm looking at the problem."

"The problem is that you're about to become furniture. Look at me."

I dragged my eyes away from Silas.

Lilith was close enough that her shoulder pressed against my chest. Her dark hair brushed my jaw every time she pulled.
