If the library is silent after midnight, don't read the names on the wall. One of them is already yours.
Synopsis
When the sealed notice arrives before the gathering in the Riyadh majlis, demanding her name be answered in public, Faisal Al-Mutairi does not permit the assembly to break the wax. Before the elders can demand an accounting from Layla Al-Harbi, he steps between her and the hall, setting the unopened paper directly at her feet. What is brought against her will not be read under their eyes. Leaving the ledger behind the formal threshold, he draws her into the private wing and turns the lock, shutting out every relative who demanded her compliance. Behind that bolted door, with their child asleep rooms away, the terms of her shelter cease to be polite, and Faisal takes full, undivided claim of the woman he just shielded from the family's judgment.
